Group Info

A little over a week ago, I put up a poll about a Wallpaper Only Group. As of this journal entry, there are 59 "yes" votes to 5 "no's". With those results, I had #Wallpaper-Lounge converted from a club to group.

If you were a watcher of the lounge, you should have seen a group blog entry announcing the "Soft Opening" of the group. I am now proud to announce that #Wallpaper-Lounge is officially open. That being said, here's the rundown about the group:
The #Wallpaper-Lounge is THE place to be if you are a wallpaper artist or fan. Aimed at becoming the "central hub" for all things wallpaper, the #Wallpaper-Lounge is one group you will want to check out.
For artists, we provide an environment to better your skills. Group contributors are able to participate in member only discussions that share tips and insight on the art of wallpaper creation. The Lounge's gallery has sections for wallpaper tutorials and resources (such as preview cards) that will help bring your work to the next level.

The #Wallpaper-Lounge also has a place for deviants who just want to support the art of wallpapers. Such deviants can join the group members section. Then they can suggest favorites to be displayed in the Lounge's collection.

How do I join?

Deviants wishing to join the member's group need only to submit an application. There are no requirements to becoming a member other than enjoying wallpapers. Once the application is submitted, they are then instantly approved and are able to start suggesting :+fav:'s for the group.

Contributors of #Wallpaper-Lounge must be wallpaper artists and have several walls submitted to their gallery. Just as with members, deviants wishing to become contributors must apply to the group. The application is then reviewed by the group admin to ensure that all contributors are wallpaper artists. Note: Contributor applications are not judged by how "amazing" one's work is. #Wallpaper-Lounge welcomes all wallpaper artists of all skill levels.

Wallpaper Pack Guide

Fri Nov 13, 2009, 1:11 PM

FAQ #812: What is a Wallpaper Pack?
A Wallpaper Pack, or simply called a ' pack ', is a compressed RAR or ZIP file containing multiple Wallpapers. Generally this means to include variations of color or theme of the same wallpaper, but more commonly a Pack will have several different resolutions to accommodate various monitors specifications. Wallpaper Packs on deviantART may be uploaded in sizes of 30MB or less. After which, the pack is then made available via the 'download' button on the page of the actual deviation.

FAQ #816: How do I upload a collection of images or files, such as brushes, wallpapers or other?
To do this you can use a program such as WinZip or WinRaR or other archival software. Once you have chosen your software of choice simply select the material to be archived and then follow the steps listed on screen. Be sure to save the file to a place where you will easily remember it for later use.

Once in the submission process, simply upload the .zip, .rar or other archival format from the location you saved it to, as you would a normal image. The submission process will recognize your file and then ask you to supply a preview image. Upload the preview image you have prepared and then fill in the rest of the submission details as normal.

When the work is submitted, the preview will appear as the submission image and the .zip, .rar or other archival format will be available as the "download file" link.

Benefits to the Wallpaper Artist
Wallpaper packs benefit the wallpaper artist as they only need to submit one deviation instead of repeating the submission process for each wallpaper variation. Statistics (if you're into that sort of thing) reflect the wallpaper set as a whole instead of being spread across different deviations.

Since packs are distributed as a compressed file, artists are able to include additional information or notices with their wallpapers. Most commonly, this is in the form of an [Anti-Theft Card] or a Terms of Service / Readme file stating how your wallpapers may be used or distributed.

Benefits to the User
Provides one location to download all variations of a wallpaper, to write comments/critiques to the artist, and allows users to :+fav: one deviation to share with their friends.

What's needed for a Wallpaper Pack?
Required:
  • Preview Card- Shows the design of the wallpaper in addition to providing supported resolution or design variation information.

  • The Wallpapers- include all resolutions or design variations that you wish to distribute.

    • Can be placed into subfolders according to aspect ratio or design variation for better organization

Optional:
  • Anti-Theft Card

  • Terms of Service / Readme

Daily Deviations

How to suggest a DD
I welcome DD suggestions from all deviants. Below you will find the guidelines on how to make a suggestion.

:bulletblue: To make a suggestion, send me a NOTE with a subject of "Work Title - DD Suggestion".
:bulletblue: Only suggest artists who have not had a DD in the past 3 months.
:bulletblue: Send you suggestions to one (1) Gallery Moderator. (Spamming makes our job harder)
:bulletblue: Suggested deviations must be located in the Wallpaper Gallery.

:bulletblue: Your suggestion should include:
  • A description as to why the piece suggested deserves a DD

  • Deviation "Thumb Number" ie :thumb######:

  • Link to the deviation

  • If you want to be listed as the suggestor(yes/no)

Take a look at the collection of my Daily Deviations Given. These deviations are a prime example of what I am looking for in suggestions.
